From big cats to domestic cats, there are so many different sizes, species, and breeds. While we’ve all probably wanted a big cat as a pet, it’s not only unsafe, but they shouldn’t be caged or domesticated. While you can’t cuddle with a lion, there are cats that love cuddling and are much bigger than your average house cat. Here’s our list of the 8 largest cat breeds!


Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds in the world, as well as one of the oldest natural breeds in the world. It’s size, hunting skill, and appearance make it one of the most popular house cats as well. Maine Coon cats can weigh between 15-25 pounds, which is MASSIVE for a house cat. Taking into account how fluffy they are, Maine Coons one one beautiful, huge breed!


Savannah Cats are a unique breeds that’s actually a cross between a domestic cat and a wild African Serval cat. The serval is a medium sized, big eared African Cat which contributes the most to the appearance and size of Serval cats. A first generation savannah cat can reach up to 25 pounds in weight. They have short, soft hair with distinct markings that make them one of the most beautiful cats in the world.


Ragdoll cats are a large and muscular cat breed with a funny twist, when picked up, they’ll go limp, which is where they get their Ragdoll name from. Their docile and affectionate temperament make them a family favorite and very popular breed. Male rag doll cats can reach weights up to 20 pounds, making them one of the best best big cats to cuddle with as they love being affectionate family members. With a plush coat, this large cat is definitely one of my favorites.


Like the Savannah Cats, the Chausie is another cat that’s been bred with a wild cat to attain the perfect mix that makes up the Chausie. The Chausie is a cross between a nondomestic jungle cat with a domestic cat. The result is a cat that can weigh up to 20 pounds and 14 inches tall. This cat is an incredible rare breed and costs quite a bit to own.


The ragamuffin is a variation of the Ragdoll, bred for it’s temperament and size. Taking up to 5 years to fully mature, the ragamuffin ranges from 11-17 pounds and are some of the nicest domestic cats in the world.


The Norwegian Forest cat is a large cat whose appearance fits it’s name. The breed originated in the forests of Norway, needing large waterproof coats to help them survive the rainy seasons. Now, Norwegian Forest Cats are one of the largest domestic breeds you can own. They enjoy the company of other pets and humans, but are very independent and will are only affectionate when they want to be. Weighing an average of 13-22 pounds, this cat is huge!


The Siberian cat is one of the best cats to cuddle with if you’re looking for a furry friend to cuddle with! They hail from a cold climate, so they have quite a bit of hair, which is all better to cuddle with. Weighing around 10-20 pounds, the Siberian Cat was meant to be on this list of large cat breeds!


British Short Hair cats are among the largest short haired cat breeds in the world. They’re also one of the most affectionate cat breeds, making them wonderful companions for families with children or other pets. British Shorthair cats weigh an average of 9-18 pounds, but they look smaller than other breeds on this list because of their short hair.
